If you want to know about gambling, then Las Vegas has to be the place to do it. This beautiful city, full of lights and colours, is the location for most of the USA’s most prominent gambling resorts, located in the famous area known as the Las Vegas strip where the rich and famous mingle with those simply on holiday or enjoying the sights and sounds of this remarkable area. Gambling in Las Vegas is simply an awesome experience!

Set in the heart of Nevada, Las Vegas has long been synonymous with glamour, wealth, and lady luck. Here you will find many opportunities for mingling with the high rollers, while you take a look at the hugely well known and popular casinos that launched the careers of many casino moguls who today dominate the market. The Mirage and the Bellagio were the casinos that made Steve Wynn a household name, and alongside the Wynn Resorts Hotel they still stand tall and proud today. You will of course have heard of the Las Vegas Sands, the resort that brought Sheldon Adelson and the Sands brand to fame and notoriety: despite the fact that this historic casino was demolished in 1996, it made way for several more Sands casinos on the strip and in the surrounding area, including the Venetian and the Palazzo.

Many of the casinos on the Las Vegas strip have a long history, with some being built on the remains of old gambling in Nevada casinos that were demolished in order to make way for progress and new designs. Take the Flamingo as an example: first built in 1946 as The Pink Flamingo Hotel and Casino, it was replaced in 1975 as the Flamingo Hilton. Finally, in 1993, all of the remaining original buildings had been demolished, and now it exists only as the Flamingo, an iconic name that recalls its long history. Other casinos who can trace their origins back to the 1950s are the Riviera and the Tropicana; the 1960s brought Caesar’s Palace and Circus Circus, two very famous names; while the 1970s saw in Bally’s, now an international force, along with Harrah’s, and the Casino Royale Hotel and Casino, forever immortalised in several games and taking the name of the famous James Bond book and films. Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall also appeared during this time.

Progress has always been advancing at the Strip, and the 1980s saw in even more new casinos to the area. Imperial Palace and the Mirage came next, signalling the new era of the domination of Wynn and Adelson of both the industry and the newspaper headlines. The 1990s were a time of rapid and widespread development, ushering in Exaclibur, the Luxor Las Vegas, Treasure Island, the MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, the Bellagio, the Mandalay Bay, Four Seasons, The Venetian, and Paris. Since the year 2000 the Las Vegas strip has seen the arrival of Planet Hollywood (replacing Tally-Ho and The Alladin), THEhotel, Wynn, The Palazzo, Encore, Vdara, Mandarin Oriental, Aria, Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and most recently The Harmon.
