New Jersey Considers Internet Gambling Bill

In 2009, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act had been assessed for its legitimacy as some of the opponents to the bill had disagreed that gambling was illegal. The court hearing in turn put the UIGEA under inspection, and a decision was made. As in the case of Plessy v. Ferguson over the Civil Rights Act of 1875 the court had ruled the UIGEA up to the individual states. Considering this fact, it would make sense that New Jersey legally produces an online gambling bill within their boundaries.

According to the reports received till date, New Jersey Senate Bill 490 is said to establish New Jersey Online Gambling. The gambling activities would include the variations of poker and would be licensed only through the state's casinos. The casinos would be located in this area, and would only welcome members from the state of New Jersey alone. The reports also state that casino games would be easily accessible through these online network points.

The current online casinos and poker rooms that have already started operations have received no competition from state licensed and regulated games. Current offshore internet gambling websites would not be considered any different than they would before the passing of this particular bill. Atlantic City’s revenue has been declining considerably over the past few years, and internet gambling activities may be precisely the answer to help them recover from their slump. Online gambling has been comparatively frowned upon over the past years, and if New Jersey state legislators win their suit then the other states may also follow.
