Online gambling enthusiasts in Massachusetts should keep their fingers crossed, because a new amendment has been filed to allow for online gambling in the form of internet poker to be allowed. It was State Representative Dan Winslow who filed the amendment to be part of the bill that discusses the expansion of land based gambling projects in the State of Massachusetts. Winslow, a Republican from Norfolk, says that if his proposal first the window allowed in the gambling bill it could provide a major source of revenue, could create a number if high tech jobs in software and regulatory areas and could cater to the online gambling needs of the State of Massachusetts.
Winslow has defined the details of the proposal according to which there should be five licenses that are valid for a 5 year period. A 10% rake would be levied on every pot and the State of Massachusetts will receive 70% of the rake. The proposal is not limited to intrastate online gambling. Winslow proposes that players from all over the world be allowed to sign up and gamble. If Winslow’s proposal is passed a new Massachusetts Gaming Commission will have to develop a model of legislation and regulations for online poker by July next year.
