Hawaii USA Making Effort to Legalize Online Poker

Well I thought that all poker games were the same until I heard about them not being created equal according to the lawmakers of the tropical state of Hawaii. Even though Utah and Hawaii are the two states to completely ban gambling of all kinds, now the government of Hawaii is in the process of making online and regular poker games legal. Gambling in Hawaii is popular but can be more popular if it was considered legal.

Well, anyone who is closely following the gambling laws of the United States would agree with me when I say this was bound to happen. The two main committees that the residents of Hawaii have to thank for their support in making this happen are the Economic Revitalization & Business Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. However according to this bill which will now be moved to the House Finance Committee would permit Texas Hold’em and Omaha varieties of poker alone.

Bill sponsor Rep. Angus McKelvey, D-Olowalu Kapalua believes that the live poker tournaments that will take place once the bill is passed will help in building the economy by attracting more visitors. According to state law poker is seen as a game of skill and not of chance and this has resulted in the positive move towards legalizing poker. Just when you though that they are finally seeing the light they have made a statement saying that any games that are played against a machine or a computer would still remain illegal.

Tom Kay who is an attorney for the Hawaii Coalition Against Legalizing Gambling has stated that this would be the beginning for many other forms of gambling in Hawaii. He also added that once people get involved into gambling, they get addicted which leads to problem gambling. Well that is left to be seen.

Whereas John Pappas the executive director for Poker Player Alliance stated that the game’s popularity will turn out be an attractive opportunity for many. He also added that this effort to make to regulate internet poker has left him doubtful.
